On the go travel essentials for toddlers and babies.
It's the merriest time of the year! We know a lot of us will be traveling to visit friends and family and we wanted to spend some time sharing some travel tips that we've gathered throughout the years. Feel free to comment below with yours!
The travel essentials for babies:
-
Diapers & Wipes
These are some of those things that we always find ourselves running out of, doubly so if some of our plans get delayed. So be sure to pack lots and lots of these, including enough for a couple extra days just in case!
-
Food
Long distant trips can be a hassle with little ones, especially when it comes to bottle feeding your baby. To make things a little easier on yourself, you may want to look into a battery operated rechargeable bottle warmer. It’s also good to note that if you’re flying somewhere for the holidays this year, the liquid limit does not apply to baby bottles in most countries.
-
Extra Clothes
Let’s face it, babies can be rather messy at times so make sure you can get them cleaned up in a jiffy by packing some extra outfits. Our Count Down to Christmas Sale has tons of stuff on sale right now, so if you’re in need of some cute outfits to pack on the go we’ve got you covered!
-
Airplane Seat
While there is no required airplane baby seat that must be used, they can make travel considerably less stressful and safe overall. Long flights in particular can be challenging if you were to try and hold your baby for the entire trip. With that in mind, front-facing car seat models that are government approved with a hard back are the recommended type for air travel. This means that using seats like the Graco 4Ever 4-in-1 Convertible Car Seat means that you won’t have to worry about your car seat being separated from you enroute.
-
Easy Clean Bibs
Make messy eating times a bit easier on yourself by packing some waterproof bibs. You can even get a cute little customized food catcher silicone baby bib over on Etsy!
Or if something a little more traditional is your style, check out this 10 pack of waterproof baby bibs that is sure to cover you for your trip. They even have some cute polka dot options that would pair well with a lot of our outfits!

The toddler travel essentials:
-
Snacks
For the sake of everyone’s sanity, try to limit the sugar by going with healthier options. You can even pick things that will add a bit of fun to travel time munchies like animal crackers.
-
Pull-ups & Wipes
Even if they are well on their way to being pull-up free, keeping these handy for those long road trips where there’s nothing around for miles may save you from an accident or two.
-
Entertainment
Entertaining toddlers on the go can be challenging, especially if you’re not a huge fan of tablets. So, we’ve gathered a list of some of our favorite toys for travel.
- Do you remember playing with an Etch-A-Sketch when you were little? Well there’s now some fun toddler approved and travel friendly variations perfect for drawing on the go. One of our favorites is the Wellchild Magnetic Drawing Board for Toddlers
- If stacking blocks is more your toddler’s thing, check out this all natural Magnetic Wooden Block Set by Tegu. With these blocks being magnetic, they can be stacked in all kinds of ways and when playtime is over they easily tuck away in their own little felt pouch.
- The HABA Town Maze Magnetic Puzzle Game is another fun magnetic toy that’s perfect for developing fine motor skills. The balls are enclosed so you don’t have to worry about losing little pieces.
- Or how about something that’s great no matter where you are? The LeapFrog Scribble and Write is not only a fun tracing game, but is perfect for helping little ones learn their letters. So turn that travel time into productive learning time by picking one up.
-
Sippy Cups or Refillable water bottles with sports top
If you’re traveling by air, be sure to leave them empty until you get past security. Otherwise, load them up and keep them in an easy access cooler within arms reach on your car ride to help keep everyone hydrated and happy on the go.
-
A Cozy Blanket
Make it easy for them to nap on the way by packing up one of our Dreamer Knit Blankets.
-
Travel High Chair
A Travel High Chair will keep you from having to hold your little ones in your lap when the restaurant lacks high chairs and will be a huge help when staying with family that doesn’t have little kids. While not ideal for travel that requires a flight, the Summer Deluce Comfort Folding Booster is an affordable yet easy to clean option that is great for babies 6 months and older.
-
Travel Stroller
Traveling often means lots of walking & tired toddlers, which is great until they decide to become a limp little noodle that makes them feel twice as heavy when you’re out and about. Those are the moments that you’ll be thankful you brought a stroller with you. Below are a couple of our favorite options, both of them weighing in at right around 13 lbs. The first of the two is the YoYo² BABYZEN Stroller Bundle, while on the expensive end of the spectrum it is easy to set up one handed and folds down into a carry-on friendly size, and comes with a strap so you can carry it over your shoulder.
The second option is the far more budget friendly Summer Infant 3Dlite Convenience Stroller. This one does not get down to carry-on size, but it does fold up really well and also comes with a carrying strap.
We are currently sold out of rainboots, but we are working on designing more!
